In the past 30 years, we have created thousands of labor saving devices and have built physical activity and exercise out of our way of living. With the creation of escalators, elevators, the segway, remote controls, computers and cell phones - we can run our entire lives without ever taking one step!
And while those inventions are helpful and time saving - reliance on them is killing us in record numbers. Just like cigarettes did when we thought they didn't cause cancer.

New research looking into the harmful effects of sitting too much is shocking! Statistics from The American Heart Association reveal that the average American spends 6-8 hours each day sitting and engaging in similar forms of sedentary activity. That number climbs all the way to 9 hours/day in senior populations.
So what's wrong with sitting too much you ask...? Well, research is still unclear as to exactly why it contributes to developing diabetes, heart disease and may lead to premature death. But it is clear without a shadow of doubt that excessive sitting is killing us!
In fact! Even if you're moderately or vigorously active for the recommended 30 minutes every day - and spend the rest of the day living like a couch potato...you're still at risk!
So, the take home message is to get moving. Now you don't need to go overboard and disrupt your flow at work, but building in some strategies to cut a couple hours of sitting out of your day may literally save your life.
